Sumita Devi



Sumita Devi (Bengali: সুমিতা দেবী; February 2, 1936 – January 6, 2004) was a Bengali film and TV actress. She was born Hena Bhattacharya in Manikganj District, Bengal (now in Bangladesh). She was married to the filmmaker Zahir Raihan.
Film career
Sumita Devi was a leading personality of Dhaka film society in the 1960s. She first acted in the feature film Aasia (1960). Her next film was Akash Ar Mati (1959). Both were directed by Fateh Lohani. Aasia got the President's Award as the best Bengali film for 1960. Sumita's career in acting spanned for nearly four decades. She acted in the main role in more than fifty feature films and in side roles in more than a hundred. Noted among the films Sumita acted in are E Desh Tomar Amar (1959; started later, but completed before Aasia), Aasia (1960), Kokhono Asheni (1961), Sonar Kajol (1962), Kancher Deyal (1963), Ei To Jibon (1964), Dui Diganta (1964), Behula (1966), Agun Niye Khela (1967), Obhishap (1967), Ora Egaro Jon (1972), Sujon Sokhi (1975) and Amar Janmabhumi (197-). During her long career in acting, she performed roles in radio, television and theatre as well. As a filmmaker, Sumita produced five films. These were Agun Niye Khela, Momer Alo, Mayar Sangsar, Adarsha Chhapakhana and Notun Probhat.
Personal life
Sumita Devi was born to a Brahmin family. Following her entry into movies, she married the director Zahir Raihan in 1961 and had two sons. During this time, she also converted to Islam and changed her name to Nilufar Begum, even though she was continued to be known by her stage name. Sumita Devi became an active artiste for the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro (Independent Bengal Radio Station) during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

Shuchanda


 Shuchonda is a renowned Bangladeshi film actress born in Jessore. She started her career in the mid of 1960s. She performed as heroine at a lot of successful movies in Bangla. Her younger sisters Bobita and Chompa are also very famous actresses in the Bangladesh and South Asian film industries. To add, the recent famous Bangladeshi actor Riaz is her first cousin.
Early life
Shuchonda's family nickname was Kohinoor. In 1968, Shuchonda married Zahir Raihan, a talented film director who was later to lose his life in an ambush by West Pakistan forces during the Bangladeshi war of independence.

Mousumi


 Moushumi (Bengali:মৌসুমী) is a Bangladeshi film actor and director, who was awarded the National Film Award for Meghla Akash (2002). She has acted in over 150 films and made her directorial debut with Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti (2003)
Career:
Mousumi came to film industry after winning the Anonda Bitichattra Photo beauty contest. She also appeared in Bangladesh television banner in the year 1990 when Meril skin care cream and Spin rain shampoo advertisement that was released at the moment; and the audience were impressed with the TV advertisement creator and model Mousumi. However Mousumi's name was not popular that time before her first movie Keyamat Thake Keyamat making time audience know that Mousumi going to a great actress in Bangladesh.
Keyamat Thake Keyamat film was her very popular box office hit movie in Bangladesh. After that Mousumi's career developed rapidly. After in the year 1993 she acted in many movies. Most movies were box office hits. Bangladeshi Actress Mousumi is also performing her own named movie Mousumi. In the Mousumi film, she is both an actress and a singer from childhood. She was also fan of fashion. But in the year 1996 she stopped acting in films for some time and announced that she will be marrying actor Omar Sani. After six months Moushumi again came back in front the camera. By that time she still had great acting skills. Again Bangladeshi actress Mousumi proved that she was a real actress. Sometimes she also performs in TV drama. She is acting with Bangladeshi famous actors Afjal Hossain, Jahid Hassain, Towkir, Bipasha and Mahafuz etc. She sings in a magazine celebration with Robi Chowdhary. She has also released an audio album too. She acted in Golapi Ekhon Bilatey (2006), opposite Mithun Chakraborty.
Mousumi was cast in advertisements of Lux, Angalik, Frame tea, Dandy dying and Tibet soap. Beside she creates a production house Kopotaxa Cholltchra. She has two children. Today, she looks after her Mousumi welfare foundation. She is also a fashion designer. In Bashundra City Market she has a stall name levies. Recently Mousumi decided that she will be acting one or two movies in each year. At present Mousumi is acting two movies "Dui Purish" and "Devdas" , waiting for their releases. She also is acting with Projapoti Cholltchra.

Suborna Mustafa



Suborna Mustafa (Bengali: সুবর্ণা মুস্তাফা) is a Bangladeshi television actress.

Early life and education

Suborna was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her father, Golam Mustafa, was a film actor and her mother was an actress, radio producer and playwright.
 Suborna attended the all-girls Viqarunnisa Noon School and passed SSC exam. She then attended Holy Cross College and passed HSC exam. She later earned MA degree in English with honors, from Dhaka University.

Career
 
By the time she was attending university, she was already acting professionally, having started acting in the late 1970s. Her roles include appearing as one of the main characters in Dolls House (2007–2009), a Bengali-language dramaserial which first aired on ATN Bangla, a Bengali-language digital-cable television channel based in Dhaka.
Suborna Mustafa directed a single-episode play, “Akash Kushum” for ATN Bangla which was popular on its time. She will direct another single-episode play titled “Shunno.” Additionally Suborna herself has dramatised the play.

Traupa Majumdar and Jitu Ahsan will perform the lead characters in the play. Though she is testing her hand as a director, Suborna does not want to continue in her new role. She said, “Acting is everything to me. I do direct plays for relaxation, as sometimes I write.”

Bobita

Babita (Farida Akhter, also known as Bobita) (Bangla: ববিতা) is a renowned Bangladeshi film actress. She has also participated in several NGOs focusing on the welfare of women and children and founded a community seed bank. 

Early days
 
Born in early 1950 (app.), Her family full name is Farida Akhter. She was born to an educated family that had its origins in the west-Bangladeshi district of Jessore, Bangladesh. Her family nickname was Poppy, and like her mother, she had early ambitions of becoming a doctor. Instead, she was to become the most accomplished actress among three sisters, all of whom became movie stars. She also has three brothers who are not in the movie business.

In the mid-1960s, her elder sister Kohinoor Akhter entered the movie industry in the capital Dhaka, and adopted the screen name Shuchonda. In 1968, Shuchonda married Zahir Raihan, a talented film director and martyred intellectual who was later to lose his life in an ambush by West Pakistan forces
 during the Bangladeshi war of independence. Raihan was casting around for a heroine for his movie Jaltey Suraj Ka Nichey, when his producer Afzal Chowdhury mentioned that his sister-in-law might fit the bill . Poppy was photogenic and had already acted in television. Zahir Raihan agreed to cast her, and although the film was not completed in the end, she found an entry into the Dhaka film industry. Her first released feature was Shesh Porjonto.

International stardom 
 
She acted in number of joint venture movie projects in her career, namely: a Bollywood-Bangladesh joint production Movie Door Desh in 1983 (Gehri Chot in Hindi) and also Pakistan-Bangladesh joint venture film Miss Lanka (Nadaani in Urdu) in 1985.

Shabnur


Shabnur (born 17 December 1979, Dhaka, Bangladesh) is an actress in Dhallywood cinema.She made her film debut in Chaadni Raate, directed by Ehatehsham.


Career
Shabnur's second film was Tumi Amar with Salman Shah. She has also worked with Riaz and Shakib Khan. She debuted her career with Sabbir, and then made her career by making films opposite to Salman Shah. She made many blockbuster films with Salman Shah. After his death, she made her pair with Riaz as co-star.

Film career
Shabnur came into Bengali cinema. As a leading, popular and romantic actress of Dhaka cinema, Shabnur came into the film industry by director Ehatesham. A big gap was created in her career because of her absence from the film industry for a year, due to her being busy in her personal life. However, after the success of her recently released movie Evabe valobasa hoy, she got back her popularity in the Dhaka film industry. She made her acting debut in the Ehatesham film Chaandni Raatain.Her first successful film was Tomakey Chai (1994) with Salman Shah.

In 1995, she appeared in Jibon Songsar, directed by Jakir Hossain Raju. After this, she made many hit and blockbuster hit films like Swapner Prithibi in 1995, Swapner Thikana in 1995, Sujon Sokhi in 1996, Swapner Nayok, Prem Piashi, Mon Manena in 1997, Buk Bhara Bhalobasa in 1998, Prithibi Tomar Amar, Biyer Phul, Swapner Purush in 1999, Narir Mon, E Badhon Jabena Chhire, Bhownkor Bishu in 2000, Karishma, Hridoyer Bandhon, Premer Taj Mahal in 2001, Nishwashe Tumi Bishwashe Tumi in 2002, Mon, Swapner Bashor in 2003, Swapner Bhalobasa in 2004, Molla Barir Bou, Bhalobasa Bhalobasa in 2005, Dui Noyoner Alo in 2006. Still she is acting.

Bipasha Hayat

Bipasha Hayat (Bengali: বিপাশা হায়াত, born March 23, 1971) is a Bangladeshi actress. She acted in the TV, theatre, and film industry and is thus considered one of the leading actress of the country. She is the daughter of a television actor Abul Hayat and has a sister, Natasha Hayat who also is an actress on the small screen. She is married to another actor & drama director of Bangladesh, Toukir Ahmed.



Career

During the 90’s Hayat played many popular television dramas which established herself as one of the leading actresses of the country. She was also successful in theatre dramas but had to leave after her wedding. She is married to Taukir Ahmed, an actor and film director. She is mother of two children. She gradually reduced working in the media as she became more involved with family life. But she still writes scripts for television drama.




Art

Bipasha Hayat is a graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University. She rarely exhibits her work. She has, in May 2009, donated some of her sketches for the charity painting exhibition for Acid victims, organized by Purple magazine in Dhaka.

Joya Ahsan


Joya Ahsan (Bengali: জয়া আহসান) is a Bangladeshimodel and actress.

Early life

In her early age Bangladeshi Actress Joya was attracted to music and dancing. Although her father wanted her to be a service-holder, Joya was interested in building her career in music and drawing. Besides her studies, she took a diploma course in Rabindra Sangeet and also undertook training in classical music. Her passion about art also carried her along as she made a solo art exhibition of her own. She also opened a music school.she was born in 1972
According to Joya, Faisal, her husband, inspired her a lot after their marriage. Then she worked in Giashuddin Selim’s Shongshoy and it took her into the spotlight. She is now acting on the film 'Guerrilla' which is based on the famous ‘Nishiddho Loban’ by eminent poet-writer Syed Shamsul Haque. There is a rumour that Faisal and jaya is now separated. but this in not true.Jaya denied their separation many times. The news of their separation published in few dailies was baseless, as there was no concrete proof. And they didn't even talked to jaya and Faisal before making the story.

After working in the teledramma Anechy Shurjer Hashi, she became the brand ambassador of the US Aids to help the women and children.

Purnima (Bangladeshi popular film actress)



Purnima also (Bengali: পূর্ণিমা) is a Bangladeshi popular film actress. Born 1981 in chittagong, Bangladesh. Her family name is Rita. The year was 1997. A new actress was in search for Motiur Rahman Panu’s movie “E Jibon Tomar Amar”, director Zakir Hossain was busy in searching a new face for the movie. At last, he got to know about Purnima from his journalist friend and having seen Purnima’s killing smile at her house, he immediately selected Purnima for the movie “E Jibon Tomar Amar”.

Inexperienced Purnima was little nervous but fearless in front of camera. After the first shot, she got courage and from then on, she has been acting in Bengali movies one after another with her talent and skill and set her as the leading romantic actress of Bengali cinema and got a huge popularity and fame.

Purnima’s Coming into Bengali Cinema. Leading, popular and romantic actress of Dhaka cinema, Purnima’s coming into the film industry was like searching a princes in dream; as if thinking of the princess, getting her address, going there and coming with her. A big gap was created in her career because of her absence in the film industry for a year due to her being busy in her personal life. However, after the success of her recently released movie “Khomotar Gorom”, she got back her popularity in Dhaka film industry.

Purnima's first film was E Jibon Tomar Amar(1997), which was released when she was in the ninth grade. Her most successful film to date is Moner Majhe Tumi (2003), which was co-produced by[clarification needed] both Bangladesh and India and is the most successful commercial film ever in Bangladesh.

In 2004, she appeared in Megher Pare Megh, directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam. The story is based upon Liberation War of Bangladesh. The story is based on Rabindranath Tagore's short stories Shashti and Shuvashini. First one Shasti:Punisment 2004, is also based on from Tagore's same short story, in which she receveid critical acclaim. Another of her movies Shubha 2006, she acted as a mute girl. Her other notable commercial successes are Hridoyer Kotha 2006 and Akash Chhoa Bhalobasa 2008. Recently released it Poran Jaye Jolia Re 2010 and upcoming Matir Thikana on 2011.
